Some folks think television will rot your brain. Nonsense. Okay, maybe some of the crasser reality shows are the entertainment equivalent of greasy junk food, but from the Sopranos to CSI to Seinfeld, some of the best writing of the 20th and 21st Centuries has found a home on television. The last decade or so has been distinctively impressive with quirky hits like Lost and Dexter carving a niche in the heart of the viewer.
But of course, what’s the point of falling in love with a TV show if you don’t have any fellow fans to discuss the latest episode with? Here are seven cool websites where you can get your geek on with your fellow fan.
The Unofficial CSI Fan Club
A great spot for CSI fans. Here you’ll find sections dedicated to CSI: Las Vegas, CSI: Miami and CSI: New York, with thorough information on the cast, crew and characters of the shows. Plus, chat and forums where you’ll find your fellow fans.
The Mantis Eye Experiment
Basically just a great fan resource for the Adult Swim series The Venture Brothers. Episode and character guides, updates on when every episode airs, and a message board where you’ll find a lot of heated debate on the new season. Not only that, it’s funny and well written, too.
Lost.com, an unofficial fansite and community
With the other shows we reference on this list, it’s just fun to keep up with your fellow fans and debate each episode. With Lost, it’s a necessity. The show is so tricky to wrap your head around, you might as well get all the help you can get. Here you’ll find the usual episode listings and forums, but you’ll also find some cool fan videos and Lost swag to get your hands on.
Miami-vice.org
Just a good, straight forward web forum for the classic cop show Miami Vice. If you’re a fan of Miami Vice, Law and Order, The Shield, the whole concept of the super-stylish cop show began with Miami Vice. If you haven’t yet, see if you can find the series on DVD and hook up with fellow Vice junkies.
Fanpop, Classic Television Revisited
Great social networking place for classic television. I Love Lucy, Green Acres, and even obscure shows like The Marvelous Wonderettes! Any tv show you remember from your childhood, it’s represented here, and you’ll find at least a few fellow fans who love that one-season-wonder as much as you do.
Webrock!
Webrock! A site devoted to the classic Hana Barbera shows, including The Flinststones, Scooby Doo and even Wacky Races. If you grew up in the sixties, seventies or eighties, you no doubt have a soft spot in your heart for those corny, fun old shows, so here you’ll find fellow full grown kids with the same affinity for canned laughter and looped backgrounds.
TrekWeb
There are a LOT of Trekkie sites on the net, and they all claim to be “The definitive Trekkie site!” but this one is pretty good! Constant updates on developing Trek news, forums, chat, book reviews, everything you could want from a Star Trek website.
